New member - Northern California

Post by Airbagguy »

Hello everyone,

I finally got my cobalt! In 2005 my family and I bought our first boat, a 2005 crownline 206ls with the 5.0. It was a great boat and gave us many years of enjoyment. Other than occasionally wanting a little more space, our old boat was perfect for our local lakes.

Recently, my wife and I purchased a place in Lake Tahoe, this is where the old boat really struggled, so the quest for a new boat was on. I always wanted a cobalt, but in 2005 it just wasn't in the cards. Now I would finally get the boat I wanted. I looked at the R3, R5, and the CS23. I loved all three but ended up with the CS23. I really like the way it sits in the water and love al the storage compared to our old boat, in fact I think I can disassemble our old boat and stuff all the pieces in the new boat. It was delivered to Tahoe on Wednesday, and I actually got to watch them lift it into the water. I've attached a few pics so you know it really happened, lol!

Very cool. Congrats. Glad it's summer there. It looks pretty warm with all of the warm smiles on everyone's face.

Welcome from your Niehbor in Stockton, California!
That’s a great looking CS! I imagine that was set for elevation so it will be a huge difference. And no worries summer is finally here where you are as we are seeing all the snow melt in the Delta still!!

Really loving the CS23 the more I see them, classic lines and timeless layout. Great looking example you have there!

Congrats, Gary, and welcome from another CA member.

How was the experience at West Coast Boat Center? I've been working with Kevin in parts a lot lately (see the Dumb Things I Did thread 😁).

Beautiful boat!

LOL! I lost a seat once out of my old boat while towing to the local lake, had to have an upholstery shop make me a new one
I dealt with Greg in sales, John in service, Kevin in parts, and Connor in Tahoe, all great staff! I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. I was also able to video the boat being lifted off the trailer, forked across highway 89 and lowered into the lake.

What kind of racing do you do? I was the race director for United States Touring Car (USTCC) for 5 years. I use to race a Porsche 944 back in the late 90's and early 2000's, now my son and I are building a car for USTCC, 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, pretty fun car.

Small world. I know a bunch of the USTCC guys (Ali, Gary Sheehan, Andrie Hartanto, Dave Sievright, etc). I also ran GGC BMW CCA's Driving Events Program for most of the 2000s and I've been running private track days under the PDC Racing banner since 2000.

I did a bunch of BMW CCA Club Racing until my kids got old enough to care whether I was home or not, now the competitive racing is on hiatus in favor of non-whole-weekend lapping days until they lose interest in me again. :D

I've currently got a BMW 318ti with an S54, full cage, Motons, etc. in 99% race-ready trim to play with.

Wow! really small world. I use to race with Ali back in the day, we were actually competitors. He reached out to me and asked if I wanted to be the race director, I said sure, I'll give it a shot. The only reason I gave it up was because my business had grown so much in the last few years, I just couldn't afford the time away anymore, and I wanted back behind the wheel. For now, I'm just like you, happy just doing track day stuff.

We met up with Gary Sheehan and family this past winter in Tahoe, when it took him 15 hours to get there due to traffic and closures, lol! To top it all off, a piece of snow fell from a tree while we were eating dinner and it cracked his windshield.

Maybe I'll see you at a track event someday.

Welcome from Minnesota! Great looking boat and Tahoe is certainly one of the most beautiful lakes on the planet.

We lived in El Dorado County for two decades and had a condo on the water in King's Beach(Brockway Shores) for many years until April of 2018 and have lots of amazing Tahoe memories including every 4th of July vacation for 11 consecutive years.
