Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
So, not being very tech savvy, I thought I would pose this question to the members who are.
After playing with my Garmin dash, it seems that there are some features that need added accessories to complete, like air temp, rudder indicator, along with a bunch of others. Has anyone looked into improving the features by using accessory add ones, and if so, how was it installed.

Re: Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
I looked into this at one point and found that I needed to purchase Volvo accessories like the trip computer for most of the options.
I am pretty sure in the paperwork that cam with the boat that no one reads it mentions the trip computer.

I'd like to the get the Rockford Fosgate PMX-CAN accessory to hook up the stereo to the Garmin. This would allow you to see and control the system from the Garmin.
Re: Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
I'm tempted to get the sat weather add in. A few coves I go to have poor cell reception and I got caught in a storm over the 4th of july

Re: Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
Here's a fun page. I haven't tested any of these, though.
https://www.yachtd.com/products/
I have the Rockford PMX-CAN interface on order. I'll let everyone know how it goes or if it works. The specs says it'll work with the 7607 so we'll see.

The Rockford interface is sold by them.
The link I sent was just a random page that has a few interesting sensors/switches that can ride on the network.
Two separate things - poorly written by me.

Re: Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
Would love to know if this works better than current setup. My only issue is trying to adjust volume for the stern radio independently of the bow and cockpit speakers.trs23 wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:29 am I'd like to the get the Rockford Fosgate PMX-CAN accessory to hook up the stereo to the Garmin. Just a quick note on how the weather works.tgrace98 wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2019 1:40 pm I'm tempted to get the sat weather add in. A few coves I go to have poor cell reception and I got caught in a storm over the 4th of july
First I love it! Cell reception on the lake is sparse to say the least. However this doesn't work as good as an app on your phone.
Here are some down sides. It takes awhile to download the data, if your glass cockpit gets turned off it delete all data saved. It only downloads data every 5min and no historical data. Since it is satellite, if you are in a covered slip it can't download more Data.
So if you start at say 9am, the first download of weather would be the 9:05 Wich will be fully downloaded by 9:10 (usually), then 9:10 downloads at 9:15, so it takes about 15 to start seeing how a potential storm is tracking.
Once in a while it will download a blank segment so it looks like all the rain you just saw is gone. (~1 out of 20+ downloads.)
If a storm is between you and the satellight you may not get good reception (only happens a couple of times, and hey look at the sky, rain is coming!!)
This has honestly save many days on the water where I either avoided the north part, or the south part of the lake and had a great time. Or a couple we better head back now. I have gotten a lot of props from people as we pull into the dock as it starts sprinkling just before a huge storm.
Most guest however don't even realize I drove to the South lake because the north part was getting hammered.

Re: Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
Ah that sounds like more pain than help. I have about 2-3 coves I do not get service in. I plan on switching carriers to see if it improves next time I get a new phone.Norris_Boating wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:10 amJust a quick note on how the weather works.tgrace98 wrote: Wed Jul 17, 2019 1:40 pm I'm tempted to get the sat weather add in. Re: Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
I did the trip computer I order to get a better feel on gas gauge. On my R5 I was always a tad nervous because gauge went from full to empty in a crazy way. I will confess I was also very used to the 100 gal tank in my center console. Ha. On the new R7 I find the trip computer to be within about 4 to 5 gallons of accuracy.
Cost was $561. Plus install of 200. Some things ya just need to have like platinum sound system and a tower. Ha

So did it increase your fuel gauge accuracy?Gail Force wrote: Mon Jul 22, 2019 10:02 am I did the trip computer I order to get a better feel on gas gauge. I thought I had a 72 gal tank but was cleaning the fuel access port today and noticed the tank said 78 gal....

Re: Garmin Glass Cockpit Accessories.
Update:
I finally got around to installing the Rockford CAN interface to the NMEA Bus. Verdict: Underwhelming.
It does add the ability to more easily adjust the balance of the zones (awkward from the Rockford panel, IMO). Naturally, you can change inputs and master volume.
However, I haven't found a way to change channels in XM Mode (90% of our listening). It also doesn't show what song is playing, which channel you're on, access to presets, etc. Only volume controls.
Bluetooth and other sources seem a little more functional. Hoping a software update with either the Rockford and/or Garmin will help in the future.

Thanks for the update! Where you able to find a NMEA port near the head unit or did you have to run a cable back to the helm console?
