Weak horn

Post by Mike in SC »

I have a 2003 220 with a very weak horn. I remember test driving a 20 foot Cobalt, the horn on that boat sounded like a two tone car horn, nice and loud. I would like to replace what I have with something that sounds good.
What kind of tone does the horn make on your Cobalt?
I was wondering if it's available on the web...

Mine sounds like an 90s Buick- kind of like the 2 tone sound you were describing. I love it !

Mine isn't very manly. Only reason I would replace it is to replace it with a stainless one.

Mike in SC - Appreciate you post what you bought and why, and discovered with installation. I need to do the same with my 2004 (and it sounds the same). I assume boat horns for this size boat, like the one BBP suggests, all have the same amperage.

Must be the era. Our 282 is a low tone, low output. But it seems to get the sailboats attention as I come up their blind backside so thatโ€™s mostly what I use it for.

Is that the factory horn?
I'd like to find out who makes it.

Yes, factory horn. Looks similar to the stainless one posted above.

Yeah, I'm doubting Cobalt makes these parts. Just like Perko makes lights for them, etc...pretty sure some parts maker supplies a quality horn for this brand. Just trying to find out what it is.

Went and spoke with parts manager at local Cobalt dealer. He says the company doesn't support anything older than 7 years. I didn't really expect to find a "Cobalt factory replacement" for my horn, but checking...
His search for a replacement would be the same as mine, look through a catalog or internet, then order the part.

No way that's crazy. You wonder why Amazon is thriving.

I put this on my truck and it works pretty good https://hornblasters.com/collections/tr ... n-horn-kit, been thinking about putting it on the boat too. Having on-board air would be nice as well. :D

You could mount the tank on the swim platform next to your grille ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

nah, it would all tuck in nice under the helm storage area, stealth mode!
