2018 220S Trailer Questions

Post by flyboyzLU »

Hey friends, I just had a couple questions about trailer setup for a 2018 220S. Purchased my boat used without a trailer and I need one, so I started looking around for a used one. The dealer said that they'd be more than happy to order me a new single axle trailer for $3800, or a new dual axle trailer for $5200, so now I really wanted a used option. Today I found and purchased an older but good shape E-Z Loader dual axle for $1,000. See pics below.
I am really hoping it works out for the boat, but was wondering how to go about fitting it/adjusting things for the 220. Do I just go for it and see where it sits on the trailer? Or do I try and get some measurements about where the bunks are supposed to be? The common issue I see on this forum is that the bunks need to be raised up to get lower unit clearance from the ground. Also, not sure how long the bunks are supposed to be. There is about 76" from fender to fender, will that work with the 220? Any tips, advice, measurements, or help would be greatly appreciated before I just go give it a try.

Thanks in advance!

Jon

I will say you need at least 4 bunks. You need to measure from the bow eye to the rear of the transom. Go off of center and so on.

Thanks for the reply! Do you think 4 bunks if all I do is trailer it once a year a couple miles to storage? I should have clarified it will be just a storage trailer.

Totally up to you. Those 2 bunks look like they will support her.

You are going to be better off selling it and going back to your dealer for the new trailer. Seriously you have a new boat. Why would you put it on a junk yard trailer?

My 2018 220 trailer is equipped with 4 bunks, dont think I'd want any less. No reason to take a chance with a new boat imo.

I have a 2018 220s on a 2019 EZLoader, which is actually in the shop getting adjusted to better fit the boat. It only has two bunks, but they appear to be further apart than yours. I can get a measurement on the width as soon as it's out of the shop.

The beam on a 2018 is 8' 6" (102"), so if my math is correct, you would have 13" of boat hanging over each fender. I'm not sure how much overhang is considered standard or safe, but that would something I would look into if I were you. If the trailer is undersized or the boat is not seated properly with two or four bunks, even a short ride on it might not end well.

It's at minimum what $50k worth of boat that is going to be sitting on a trailer six to seven months? Why wouldn't you go with four bunks to make sure it is property supported? Seems like cheap insurance to me but to each their own.

Also this. That seems like a lot of boat hanging off each side of the trailer. I know EzLoader makes several different models, sounds like this one may be a bit undersized for your boat.

This guy gets it, of course he also doesn't own a trailer so I wouldn't trust him too much.

Hahaha I have trailered many of boats in my day. I am just spoiled now and don't have to deal with it anymore.

For those wondering how this worked out, the dealer adjusted the trailer to get the boat as far forward as possible to get some tongue weight, and it is working out just fine for my needs. Pics below with how it is sitting on the trailer. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

Hey thanks for the follow up flyB..,👍🏻

Looks like it turned out really nice. When you load her on the trailer from the water, have you had any issues with the bow being too far above or below your bow stop?
