anchoring with Windlass R30

Hi everyone:
I recently purchased an R30 with a windlass. I am more familiar with the anchoring on my previous R5 where you throw out the anchor, get a good set and cleat it off.
With the windlass, here is my question....after i let out the proper amount of chain, do i need to do anything other than leave the chain and windlass alone. is there any cleating, taking pressure off the windlass.

Matt is our resident windlass expert and I'm sure he will answer. But after reading his many posts on the subject I can answer for him. After you let it out you will need to clean it off. You don't want any drag on it. On retrieving, you'll idle ip until you're straight over the anchor and then bring it up from there.

I run a chain / rope combo so I use the cleat once set. Remember you want your clutch tight but able to slip so it won’t chatter on a snag or pulling the boat up with the windlass.
Use your teather that secures your anchor when stored to keep tension off when anchored.

Ok, so how do i cleat the chain.... Should i attach some sort of line to the chain and then cleat it. Reading many blogs, it says to keep the pressure off the windlass and on a cleat. Just trying to figure out the best way to accomplish this.

For a chain Windlass ( no rope )

The same teather you use to keep the anchor stowed underway ( so you don’t release it from the helm accidentally). Is the same teather used once the anchor is set.
Then bump some slack if you if like . It’s only tricky releasing the teather under a load as it may need to be relaxed to pop off.

I have Rope after 10 feet of Chain so I use the cleat.

It’s ok. It’s your failsafe, and bumping it to take it off is the trick.
It’s also tricky tying off to a cleat when set and the nose is bobbing.
