Colorado ride

Post by Ytmsn »

Not a boat thread, but an adventure!
For over 20 years we used to go to Colorado every summer for 2 weeks to camp, ride bikes and 4 wheelers, and sit by the fire at night telling stories, but haven't been there for about 5 years now.

But tomorrow I leave early for a 500 mile off road loop! 27 passes and lots of single track with ver6little road linking together the trails. I'll be carring only a backpack and small enduro bags for my gear. Our starting point is Salida, and we'll stop every night at a hotel for hot showers, dinner and good sleep. After a 5 day ride we'll loop back to Salida to the trucks, and head home on Sunday. More pics to come!

I'm sooo pumped! The bike is loaded and ready.

Thanks guys! This is something I've wanted to do for a long time!

Day one:
Up at 2. About to head out and pick up my riding buddy of 30 years. We'll load his bike and head north!
20190819_024623-2891x2224.jpg

I have two small saddle bags and a backpack to carry one set of rain gear, one spare set of riding gear, a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and flip-flops for evening, a pullover windshirt, two pairs of gloves, a small ditty bag, an Enduro jacket and maybe a few other small things, and I still have room to spare!

On the way up we're going to stop and tour Bishop Castle just east of Westcliff. It's a self-guided tour and kind of looking forward to it!

We'll acclimate to the altitude today and go on a recon ride tomorrow. The loop starts Wednesday morning and we ride through Sunday. Eight of us are going and I think I'm the youngest guy in the group! Most of these guys were beasts back in the day and raced as expert or double A Rider's. They're old and white headednow but it's till actually hard to keep up. Old guys rule...

Made it to Salida for the night. Tomorrow will be a piece of the Rainbow Trail and then north. Back to Salida for night two, then we hit the trail!

Today was the first full on day of riding. Yesterday was just to get acclimated to the altitude and get my suspension dialed in. Today we did 130 miles.

This mornings start with everyone here. These guys are old but they're beasts! I'm the youngest here and they range up to 74 as the oldest.. And he's probably the fastest rider!
20190821_075748.jpg
About 10 miles up the road and we got into single tract on the Crest Trail that runs along the Continental Divide. It was awesome!
20190821_090321.jpg
Now we've made it to our rooms for the night. Dinner and then a lip skid into bed!
