What options do you wish you had specified...

Post by TwoBurgers »

As great as the Cobalt's are, every boat has areas of improvement - in either how they were spec'd or how they were made. While I did not order my '13 232, the gentleman from KY that did spec'd it just about how I would have.

Things I wish my boat had:
1) the windlass option (pricey but how convenient...)
2) the audio upgrade included JL speakers and a larger amp
3) an option to have an auxiliary bilge pump installed
4) the fender clips
5) a simple built-in compass option existed
6) the auto fire extinguisher installed
7) a Whipple supercharger would be fun (not needed, but fun - 450 hp!)
8) two Hooter's girls came standard :). We can all dream...

Since I'm still in the order banks, but my dealer will be calling any day now to lock in the power and the rest of my options. I imagine they will be building my boat within the next couple of weeks.
I'll be paying attention.

Ok I'll never own a new Cobalt. But if I did order my 220 I would have these added.
1-Captains Choice. Who orders a big block with it it.come on.:-)
2- Flag
3- Power Folding Tower
4-Power hatch
5-JL stereo upgrade
6-Seagrass carpet
7-Tower Speakers
8-Knee board and wake board racks with auto clamping.
9-Phender clips
10-Seadek on the swim platform.
11-Under water led lights.
12-Swim platform led lights.
13-GPS smart gauges with Perfect pass

Hooter girls :-) I'm all good with that option as well. I have there key chain did that count. Had one in every boat I've owned. Just like it.

I bought mine lightly used and the guy added all the options. The only upgrades I have made/am making is a total stereo overhaul and replacing carpet with marine mat. They didn't have the JL audio yet when it was built but he did order the upgrade available at the time unfortunately the head unit was not Sirius XM as it was ordered before the merger so I replaced that to be able to get satellite radio. They didn't have the sea grass available until later as well.

Now my question for you is who the heck is driving the boat? Lol

Bclark You can add the tilt switch very easy and under $100. It's drill and plug and play. Mercury one works with the Volvo.
I just wish the factory would have put them on the port side.

Check with your dealer mine told me it's very difficult to add after the fact. I don't know if he meant on my model or in general. He said the transom is different on the boats that come from the factory with them. I have it but the original owner had them put on. I haven't used them yet though.

Lumitec seem to be popular and good quality.

I have most fun and interior fluff options ordered, except for those that just don't seem practical for a bowrider.
But I was wondering this, I had a transom tilt on my chaparral and never used it.

My biggest reason for not speccing it? I figured one person in control of the outdrive position made for less chances of a swimming accident. And, I always raise the outdrive before pulling out of the water, and I shut the batts off before jumping down for the tow home, so no use there.
What do you guys use it for that I'm missing?
I still have a few day to add options before the boat is locked for build.
Thanks.

I never shut my batteries off. I let my drive down at the ramp to get the water out. I also drop the drive at home if it's going to be sitting for a. Week or more. Changing props. Running on time hose. Cleaning and so on. I would never own one again without it. I just can't believe they put it on the starboard side.

The remote tilt switch is a convenience item for sure. I use mine whenever I need to adjust tilt when the boat is on the trailer. If not, it would be easy to put the drive down too far (into the ground). If I recall it was one of the least expensive options... $150ish.

Hmm. Servicing..
Yeah 2b, it's basically a hundred dollar item. I see it as added wiring and switching that I don't use, but.. if it keeps dirty service tech shoes out of the cockpit while servicing, then it does have a place.
