Simrek Drive Shower on Bravo 3 - Needed Modification

Post by Motex2011 »

I purchased a Simrek Drive Shower about a month ago and finally got it installed last Saturday. In looking at the website, the outdrives shown had a very different shape, so I exchanged a few pics with the company and agreed to give it a try and return it if it would not work.

Since the boat is a 100 miles from home I needed to plan for as many problems as possible, so I loaded up a bunch of tools and took off. I fully expected the holes to be off, so I planned by buying some SS "L" brackets and SS bolts and nylon lock nuts and nylon spacers that could be used to create the needed configuration. When I pulled the boat out of the water, I could quickly see that I was going to need them. So, I snapped the brackets in the middle and then stacked them and drilled them out to allow for the bolt that went into the drive and the SS screw and nylon lock nut that I purchased to secure the drive shower to the bracket that I created.

So, the good news is that I had the material I needed to make a workable bracket. The bad news is I had to get creative since I did it at the marina and didn't have all of my tools. In the end, I was able to get it all mounted and here are the pictures showing the final solution. I shared the pics with the company and they felt that it would work fine.

Nice share.
I didn’t realize the cover hardware on the sweptback Bravo1X was lower? Considering this drive has been out since 2007 ?
Could be mercs new finned top bearing plate was enough and not many people asked for a shower.
You came up with a solution other then bending it down. Nice work

interesting, didn't realize the case was different between the B3 and B3X. The Simrek bolted right up to my B3, install was literally 5 minutes.

Nice job M2011.

Although I have a 2005 Bravo 3 X drive and no modifications were necessary for the Simrek install. 🤔

Posted here.

I'm curious.... What prevented you from rotating it slightly forward and using the mounting hole already on the shower (similar to AsLan7's install)?

Good question. I tried to get it to fit without that bracket and It was off just a little. I came to the conclusion that the only way I could get it to fit was to force it and I was a little worried about putting a bend in the tubing and hindering the water flow. I'm still thinking about doing that the next time I pull it out of the water if I can get comfortable that it won't hamper water flow.
