Cobalt Newbie Seeking Advice

Post by kots »

Looking at a Cobalt and need some help.
I have owned several boats mostly offshore or wakeboard over the years. I am looking for a nice lake cruiser and know the Cobalt is definitely one of the best if not the best. That said, I found a good deal on one in my area and went to check it out. Super clean and a chunk missing out of the lower unit (I know nothing about inboard/outboard configs)... Is this cosmetic or something that needs to be addressed?
Thanks!

Hey kots. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Cosmetic only. You won’t notice much difference at all if any with that piece of metal missing.

Any pics of your prior boats?

Welcome aboard mate!

What no ladder?
Yes the top side won’t hinder performance w/the prop cavitating.

Cosmetic. What year is that? I know VP had some composite drives for a couple years that were terrible, they were replacing them until recently under warranty discount.

Yeah, looked it up and the XPD drive is the one to avoid, you're all good. If you want to fix it cosmetically I'd try JB Weld and a paint job.

I would be more concern about how it broke. Was the boat backed into something in the water or on the trailer? Thats an extremely weird place to break an outdrive

I ended up getting a 2013 220WSS. Thank you all! Any suggestions for replacement cooler for the Igloo OEM? Will the Rrtic or Yeti fit? Boat is in dry stack and keep forgetting to measure the Igloo.
