New to Cobalt Boats

Post by Anacletus »

Hello, Cobalt Owners. I’m new to Cobalt and this site. I picked up this next to mint 1986 Cobalt with less than 400 hours on the motor. It was sold as a Cobalt 230, but looks more like a Cobalt Condurre. Can any one confirm the model? Thanks and look forward all the great information sharing in this forum.

Hey Anacletus. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Thanks for the intro with pic. 👌🏻

Nice Cobalt find. Looks like a Condurre but I’m not as familiar with this generation of Cobalts. Others will chime in though. 400 hours is low. Almost a barn find. 8-)

How do you plan on using her and how is she powered?

Again welcome aboard mate!

Definitely a Condurre 230. Looks clean, I saw it was listed on Boat Trader. Let’s get some interior and begin pics.

Welcome from Texas and great find. Please post pics so we can see what a mint 34 year old Cobalt looks like. You should bring that to the Regatta in July at Table Rock Lake and show it off.

Where are you at and where to you plan to boat?

Thanks, all. Lake Norman, NC, is my go to lake; pure recreational use => fun. I’ll be cleaning the leather and vacuuming the original cabin carpet this weekend. More pictures to follow. Truly appreciate the welcome. Look forward to getting to know Cobalt and sharing what I can.

Boat is trailered and ready for some minor work. Had her out on the lake 3 times since taking ownership. What a rush; especially once you hit an even plane. Have one issue, which I’ll post to the appropriate chat room as well. The previous owner replaced the throttle. When putting into reverse, it engages and will “idle” back, but when applying any throttle, the motor stalls. So, while cosmetically, almost showroom, a mechanical issue arises. Thoughts?

Sounds like something with the shift interrupt switch adjustment.

I have no insight into your throttle issue, but that's a sharp boat for being 35 years old. Nice find!

That is a Condurre 223, designed, I believe, by the great Peter Granata.

Welcome and great find.
Seeing how great older Cobalts look on the water is one of the reasons we bought Cobalt.
I like the blue also.

Great looking boat. I’m with BB, the shift cables probably just need adjustment, especially if you assume the cables were replaced with the new controls. Let’s see some engine pics!

Here is a picture of my 1988 Cobalt 170 Condurre. I am looking for ideas on upgrading to a Bimini top.

Hey abdt. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

A Bimini top shouldn’t be too difficult to add. Just a couple of anchor points on the gunwhale to hold her in place and one on each side of the hull near mid-cleat to keep it from moving fore and aft. Others will chime in shortly.
