1996 252br - Fuel Tank Vent
Hello all, i have a new to me 252br which apparently has a blocked vent somewhere.
When filling the tank i can only get 4 or 5 gallons in at a time before it burps fuel out of the filler and then i can start again. I can also see a lot of vapor coming out of the filler as i pump.
I cannot for the life of me see a vent anywhere on the exterior of the hull. Can anyone tell me where the vent goes to? And does it actually vent to atmosphere?
I'll pull the cover off the fuel tank under the seat next to investigate.
FYI - stainless cupholders, swimplatforms.com, seadeck, and a new steering wheel are all either done or the money has been paid!

Re: 1996 252br - Fuel Tank Vent
I could be wrong but I thought the vent runs up the drivers side to vent by the driver
I think you can see it if you pick up the front seat back in front of the driver
It’s also easy access to the back of your dash and horns under their
I’ll verify the vent later this week when I return home from vacation

GB - can't help you with your problem, but noticed from NH (winny?). If the boat is stored outside this winter make sure any outlets, w/ or w/o a screen, on the hull below the shrink wrap are tape over. Some guys will tape the all outlets before the shrink wrap. Those tiny little guys love to make winter homes in boat fuel and bilge outlets resulting in a blockage in the spring. Just a FYI

Thanks for the pics big block
I was going off my memory
Gbourdon, if plastic is not covering the outside vent as big block mentioned
Removing the drawer under the drivers console and you can climb in under the front seat to sit under the dash
Easy access to the end of the vent hose
Remove it from the fitting on the hull and blow air through it to see if you have a blockage

Re: 1996 252br - Fuel Tank Vent
I had the same problem on my last boat, turned out the hitch was setup to high and the fuel was higher than fill hose causing it to back up the filler neck like it was over full. When I dropped the hitch to make the boat level it took fuel as it should.

Re: 1996 252br - Fuel Tank Vent
BBP has the vent location correct in those pics. A couple things to check, first check the screen on the vent...mine was plugged up with wax, cleaning it helped a bunch. It's also possible that the vent hose inside the boat has water or fuel in it, which would also prevent it from venting correctly. The hose is looped inside the hull IIRC, and water can collect in the bottom of the loop.

Re: 1996 252br - Fuel Tank Vent
Sorry for the delay reply. BBP pics helped my blindness.
I was able to locate the vent and clear the mud wasp schmeg out of there and successfully pump around 60 gallons in record time!
In doing so i also noticed a lot of wax on the screens also. I am going to replace that vent completely in short order.
Boats going great otherwise. Swim Platform gets here on Thursday!
I'll set up a proper new intro thread with a few pictures very soon!
