New 220 pricing
New 220 pricing
Hi guys,
We are new to Cobalts but have been around a few crownlines(family has and currently owns) and the previous boat to "our" current 220 was a 19' genesis. We needed more room and passengers and we ended up with our current 97 220 w/7.4 - which is very adequate. I love the way it handles chop and will be a Cobalt owner until we stop boating. But our 97 needs a few things: swim deck but we have CC, new cover - which we have quote from Aurora, stereo - family request current is fine, a little TLC here and there, and finally it has too much green for me so I am considering black vinyl to cover the green hull side.
Anyway through researching how much this cost and some ideas through Cobalts website I found that they are having a $20K discount on select new models. We are not currently looking to buy but may be in position next spring. I would like to say with $20k off that puts a new boat into used pricing - who doesnt like that? My question do they do this often? Do I need to act now?
The reason I ask is with the cost to upgrade this current 220 would put us close to buying a 2008ish next year. We were considering doing just that but need to wait and save so we don't have to have any payments... Oh and not put in that first scratch - we trailer everywhere, new waters and boat ramps can be a challenge.
TIA
Dustin

Hey Dustin. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
I definitely see a new 220 in your future.
Sounds like the right size boat for ya’ next year. Make sure you get her powered nicely for others here who may want t buy it from you when you’re done.
Boat sales are smoking hot right now so these sales can be rare now but will pop up every so often....especially when pushing certain models.
Any pics of your current Cobalt or past Crownline?
Again welcome aboard mate!

Re: New 220 pricing
For a while we were on the fence on a new purchase, but our 97 is sold to a friend of mine and Saturday morning we are going to view new 220 and CS23 before we commit to a new boat order. I dont know if the CS23 is worth 5k for the extra 10" and a little different seating layout. We will see in person...

Re: New 220 pricing
Well after crawling all over them for an hour wife has decided the CS23 is probably a better fit. Anchor locker, storage in the helm, passenger cubbie hole, and longer swim deck made the decision. I do like the seating and she likes the sun pad on the 220 better.
This is contingent on finalizing the sale with my best friend this afternoon. We're picking them up and going boating.
The black and red look darn good in person

Re: New 220 pricing
Dustin,
The general rule of thumb is that 20% off list is a pretty good price (some dealers will go there fairly quickly and some won't ever discount that deeply), and 25-30% off becomes impossible to get. Lots of people out there paying sticker price for Cobalts this year though with supply shortages, so I would feel pretty comfortable that a boat you like discounted 20% is a solid deal.

Re: New 220 pricing
If you build a 220s on Cobalts site, it shows an automatic discount of 26%. I've been told in the past that is a nationally advertised Coblat discount and that most dealers won't discoutn past that. You might get 1 - 2% more from a dealer who has stock as we head into fall and a slow down in sales, but boats will be in more limited supply and some may have additional options that you wouldn't ordinarily take so even if you get a few more points off of an in-stock boat, you'll still end up paying more than a custom boat with fewer options (at a slightly lower discount). There is one western Canadian dealer who is offering 30% off left over 2019 models, so maybe there is a dealer in your area doing the same?
The marine dealer cost site shows an average of 30% margin for most boat manufacturers so I think 26% is pretty good even if there is an additional program available to dealers that we don't see.
Good luck

Re: New 220 pricing
Yes him and his wife want to buy or 97 220 (they want to think it over tonight). The only way I would put in an order is if this one is sold. I kind of had some second thoughts of selling as we were ripping across the lake with CC open.Big Block Power wrote: Sat Aug 22, 2020 8:54 pm What's up with the best friend? Re: New 220 pricing
So it's interesting. It's a weight thing I'm sure. You can get a 380 volvo but not a 430 in the cs22. But you can only get up to a 350 hp in a merc. But with no options you can get one with a 380 for $76k after the factory discount.
The 220s you can only go up to a 350hp in both engines. Just kind of interesting.
That's a nice clean 220 though. Yes sucks they don't even offer captains call on the cs22 I'm sure it's Because there isn't any room back there. Sell her and upgrade. Even if you're buddy doesn't buy it the next person will. You will get a premium for it. You asking around $20k for it?

Re: New 220 pricing
Yes the engine options are interesting, maybe because the 10 series are now just an entry level boat? Regardless we are going to stay with 300hp, fast enough for us and if you look at plane times they are almost the quickest.
We are going to ask $15k.
We are going to ask $15k.

Re: New 220 pricing
Yea very cool. Sorry I don't look at plane times but I get it. $15 is a great price. You have the 5.7 in your 220 now? She will sell fast.
So your going with the 220s or cs23. I'm all confused and which color? Let's just get a picture of you holding that sold Sign up

Re: New 220 pricing
OK BBP - our 220 has a 454 with IMCO exh manifolds and alum intake.
After seeing the above 2 boats in person we are going to order a CS23.
Color has been narrowed down between black hull side with red boot stripe OR navy blue hull side. Tahoe grey interior.
