Cobalt 2015 200S - hours

Post by drekar »

Just curious what people think of 2015 200s with 1200 hours.

Is that a lot for a boat like this - it's a 280 V8 - Bravo 3 outdrive.

How much would that take off a price?

That's what I was thinking - I just didn't know if it mattered.

Oh it matters. Do you care when you rent something? Nope people don't care. But some rectal fleets take very good care and change maint items better then us. I guess ask for records. How much to take off because it's a rectal or hours it depends on what that are asking. It might already be discounted because of that. 🤔

BB, I’m going to be especially careful the next time I go to a “rectal” agency.

drekar -you need facts/knowledge. you need outside professional opinion for your engine (Volvo, Mercury) and and then, ignoring the hull, get the proper engine tests (compression, leak down). If SW all bets are off. I'd probably rebuild the outdrive in near future. If you have the facts then you know what your buying/negotiate and bounce the worst case against newer boat with less hours. Treat buying a boat just like a buying a house.

Isn't their a sticky on buying a used boat?

Food for thought we have bought used rental car, but I would never ever buy a rental boat. You figure have of the people that rent boats have never operated one before and have no idea what they are doing. Then a quarter that just beat on it as hard as they can. Finally the last quarter that operate like they should. Given also the shear number of hours I would be factoring in a new drive system and possibly engine. I also would go over the hull (from the inside) centimeter by centimeter for pervious damage that may still be an issue or come back to haunt you in the coming future.

Yes all that exactly I wouldn't have a problem buying a rental but the cost would have to address a worst case scenario. good luck

BTW - I'm surrounded by rentals but 90% of those rental are float boats (pontoon boats - outboards). How much abuse can you give a pontoon boat? Boy, the family parties they have on those - I'd be concerned with the AL hull on those things. My neighbor bought one with a destroyed interior, he uses it for fishing.

Before getting too excited I would also confirm the actual running hours from the ECU to confirm they are the same as what the dash hour meter is reading. These can be a lot different if someone has been leaving the key in the "on" position when the engine isn't actually running (as opposed to the "accessory" position which would power only the radio)

Yes, that a lot of hours for a 2015, but if it was properly maintained it could still be a great boat, no doubt at a great price point with those hours. A survey will tell you if it was taken care of. My last boat had 2000+ hours when I sold it and it still ran perfectly.
