Im looking for a 263. I looked at a 2001 that was local to me. I liked the boat but it was shrink wrapped. It was the Clear shrink so i was able to get a feel for it. I was suprised to see so many spider cracks on the boat. It had 900 hours on her too. It was at a Marina for sale for $29k with a newer trailer. Are these boats common for spider cracking so much?

I am no boat guru but all of the cracks on my old boats came from stress, mostly impacts. All over or just by the rub rails?

This one had cracks up on the bow by the hatch and around ths door for the cuddy. It had a big cluster on the curved part of the stern by the swim platform. It was a big turn off for me. I do love the boat. I just want somthing cleaner.

My OCD is gonna cost me $$ !

A7 will chime in. Stress from waves, usage, screws, stuff added on that wasn't done correctly. Cobalt now and I'm not sure when they started to groove the rub rail gel to prevent cracking from the rail. It's pretty cool that they did that. So many other manufacturers never thought of doing that.

Hey J74...welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

If a boat has that many stress cracks it's definitely a sign of some type of troubled past (abuse, flood, impact, etc.). I'd steer clear of that one. Hairline stress cracks in the gelcoat in an isolated area or two is normal...but not what you are talking about. It's difficult to diagnose from the internet so a marine surveyor could save you from making a big mistake if you do not know what to look for while purchasing.

Hope you get into a 263. Amazing model. We sure enjoy ours.

Keep those questions comin' and again, welcome aboard mate!

Thank you Sir!

Let me know if you want to sell me yours...LOL!

Im staying clear of that one. Seems like a tough boat to find so far. I'm also considering a Formula 260 SS if i have no luck finding a clean 263.

Why closed bow? Are you planning to overnight or want to have protection from waves over the bow?
Also consider a 282 if open bow could work

I want somthing that i can weekend on occasionally and do a lot of boating on Lake Michigan. Ive taken too many waves over the bow on bigger boats than this one out there. I also want somthing i can trailer around to other Lakes. This boat or a Formula 260 SS seems to fit the bill. I want the deadrise and the Big Block.
