5.7 mercruiser hesitation

Post by FriDaz293 »

Hey everyone,
I decided to take the 293 out for a run today and the port engine won't rev passed 2000 rmp the other engine runs perfect. At idle it runs fine but after 1500 it starts hesitating and then won't pass 2000 rpm. I pulled the distributor cap and saw corrosion and cleaned it off but didn't change anything. I'm leaning towards a fuel pump now but could it be just a bad distributor and button? The engines are 5.7 merc. Throttle bodies.

Thanks for any help

My 496 did that last summer. Ran fine in the driveway. After consulting 5 mechanics, new fuel pumps, injectors serviced, fuel pressure regulator. The fifth mechanic asked if I changed the spark plugs. That did it.

If it had run bad on the hose I would have changed the plugs. It ran perfect until you put it in the water.
