Depth sounder

Post by AsLan7 »

The other issue we found today ( which was also supposedly working in Vegas) was our depth sounder.

It receives power just fine.

Unfortunately it just blinks 0.0 when it's on the "actual depth" setting.

Jumped into lake and made sure nothing blocking sensor.

Weird.

Anyone else had this issue in the past?
(BTW, anyone have a copy of the Operating manual for our depth sounders. The alarm settings can get confusing.)

Those are the most messed up sounders in the world. Sometimes if you just click the toggle switch down it will start to work. I'll try to find my manual I downloaded. I think they are faria believe it or not. But it's pretty generic. Make sure your on ft not f for fathom. Just toggle through it. You will see sh for shallow alarm. Also kl for keel adjustment. Then I think zero comes up and I think you just tap it one more time and it will start working.

Toggle down to see shallow, deep, keel depth and units. To set what is displayed toggle up.

IKR!

Yes, I believe they are Faria.

I did have the Un (units) set to feet.

Just messed with the other settings.

Still 0.0.

Did not set keel depth.

Previous owners sent all original paperwork and manuals that came with the 263 when new. They had forgotten to include it when shipping her. That package arrived today!

...and yes, there's a Faria depth sounder installation and instruction guide. Yay!

May have to check rear connections. Blinking 0.0 indicates there's an issue.

Those are tiny little wires under there. Mine would shut off. I found the ground wire broke at the connection. The nice thing is it beeped everytime it got power back. So I just kept wiggling wires till I found it. Fixed the ground and done.

BB mine is doing the exact same thing. So are you talking about the tiny wires coming out of the Sounder in the bilge or behind the helm?

Behind the helm. Black one was broken. The insulation was still holding it in place. Just start wiggling the wires you will find it.

The intermittent power issue is certainly an easy fix.

The flashing zeros is a little more difficult to diagnose.
