Hi, we’ve loved our new to us 2004 240 (with 6.2 Merc), purchased in April. We were lucky enough to be out on the lake every single weekend in July and august until this past weekend. Awesome storage, plenty of room for 9+ people and dogs. Handled the chop so much better than our crownline 225br. Surprising power (thought I would regret not finding a 496). Did i mention storage?
So….not really looking. BUT….I have the cobalt bug. I’ve been helping a friend search for an R7 (way out of my price range for what we need it for). But it got me thinking about how long we’ll hold onto this one and what our next upgrade (used) will be.
If there are any owners who’ve have the 240 as well as the 242, can you share your thoughts on how they compare? What you like/dislike going from one to the other?
I have a few thoughts about what I THINK I might like about the 242…but the 240 is really everything we need. So I’d like to hear something definitive in order to convince myself that it might be worthwhile. (I do the same for Home theater, subwoofers, grills, smokers…haha).
Thanks!

Re: Cobalt 240 vs 242
I'm with you on researching before purchase. We looked at a 242. One thing I noticed may be different is the side walk thru transom. I personally prefer that as I like to touch something for balance when lake is rough.Rvgetfive wrote: Thu Aug 19, 2021 7:39 pm Hi, we’ve loved our new to us 2004 240 (with 6.2 Merc), purchased in April. Re: Cobalt 240 vs 242
I've never personally been on a 240, but have been on a 242, 252 and I own a 262. The 242 has a deeper V so it should handle the chop even better. I also enjoyed the sun pad on the 242 when we were anchored.

Re: Cobalt 240 vs 242
We have an R5 and love it! My wife’s cousin has a 240 and although I have not been on it they are tied up to us quite often in the summer and all I can say it that everyone always ends up on our boat because of the rear swim platform and sun deck with the reversible seat. 3 people on the back of the 240 feels crowded and we have ended up with 6-7 adults on the back of our R5 at times. Their 240 also has the Merc 6.2 and it runs pretty close in speed to our R5 and we have the VP 380. I think the seating in the 242 is similar to the R5 but there is a little more room on the R. The 240, 242 & R5 are all nice boats but I think the R5 has the most space. If you are looking for a 242 don’t rule out the R5.
