Satin Black Lettering on Black Hull

Post by BRDad »

Any thoughts on how the satin black COBALT lettering would look on a black hull. I know it will not stand out like the chrome letters but could it look sleek and cool? Or will it just blend away and not be seen at all?

Thanks!

you will not see them at all angles.

Food for thought: my wife didnt want chrome wheels on her black car anymore she wanted black wheels, So I bought a few cans of plastic dip and painted them black for her. It has been 2 years and I have only had to touch up a couple of them. The best thing is that once she gets tired of it I can just pressure wash them back to chrome.

To each his own. I like it and think you are on to something. Hah! I like the look and feel you can see the lines on the boat a bit better because of it.

I wonder if you could get away with doing satin black on the registration numbers?

Only if you want to meet every water sheriff  ... That satin Cobalt looks great on there!!

We found out quickly that small boats with hard to read CF numbers are a magnet for "Hello hows everybody today". And I trimmed ours with a black outline. Owell

Only when you get to larger USCG type registered boats is when they don't pay attention .

Satin black when it contrasts the hull color, like pacific blue, looks good, IMO. Satin black on a black hull, might as well debadge the boat at that rate, at least it would make it easier to detail.

Like cmatt said, only if you want to meet every water patrol officer! I had a red hull Sea Rat and Minnesota had a red state registration tag for the 3 years I had that boat. What a pain it was! I got stopped all of the time! My registration numbers were a contrasting color, grey with black outlines but the MN tag was red so they didn’t ever think I had the registration. It seemed like every time we went out we got stopped, sometimes multiple times in one day. One guy argued with me that it was registered and I didn’t have the little sticker not he hull. I told him to run my numbers and give me a ticket if it comes back unregistered, he still had to lean under the front of the boat to check and he ran my numbers. Then we got stopped by him a couple weeks later.
