What brand bearings do you use?

What brand bearings do you use in your trailer? Do you carry spare bearings or a spare prepacked hub?

Timken makes a great bearing. I carry a complete set of greased races and bearings

My Cobalt trailer has the vault hubs so I haven't touched those. For my travel trailer I use US made Timkens. In fact its the first thing I did when I bought my travel trailer...yanked the chinese bearings out and put in Timken bearings and races.

On my old boat trailer, I welded on an axle stub and mounted a spare hub/disc to it and the spare tire attached to that. Always had a fresh hub and bearings in an emergency. I also had a few lug nuts on there as well.

My boat trailer has vault hubs so I dont have anything for spares.

On my other trailers I have found that they get rusted from condensation before any actual wear happens so I just buy whatever the local guy has every 5 years or so. Never had a problem with an axle bearing so i dont have any spares with me. If I did have a problem I would just jack and chain that axle up and limp it into the nearest service station.

Just redid all new bearings and races and new grease for the vault hubs after 12 years. Installed Timken bearings all around. To be honest the Chinese ones inside looked fine. I go for Timken any time I’m doing bearings. Never had an issue with them.

I just pulled one of the UFP DB-35 hubs off for the first time last week just to check things over after 15 years. The grease and Chinese bearings looked pristine. I’m more concerned about the rubber on the grease seals even though the one I checked still looks good.

I ordered a bunch of Timken bearings to go in when I replace the grease seals. Each Timken set (four inner bearing/races and four outer bearing/races) was about about $10 each on Amazon ($80 total or about $20 per wheel). It seemed a lot harder to find decent grease seals made in the US. I ended up with National brand double lip seal for about $10 each. I could have easily picked up 4 grease seals for less than $15 total if going for the cheapest on Amazon or from the local auto parts store.

I will probably keep the original Chinese bearings and races for emergency spares.

I keep a spare hub and carry a spare set of bearings. But, if it is 115 degrees, I'm not changing anything on the side of the road.
