Round Sony remote replacement

What’s the best solution for this? The mounting hole is obnoxiously large and a pain in the ass to work with. I am attempting to make an adapter plate for it.

The cheapest would be to make a stainless steel backing plate, affix the new fusion remote it and use 3M tape or epoxy to glue the plate to the boat.

We made a placeholder just to cover up the hole and test for function with getting the radio working. We got the laser cutter going last night for the finished product.
