Expected R30 Speed with 380s

Post by thunderfli »

Hi all. I just picked up a 2021 R30 with twin 380s. Very nice boat! I’ve taken it out a couple times and My top end is about 52 mph, which is quite a bit less than I thought. I was expecting closer to 60.

Here are the details from today:

Wind 15k (same speed into and with the wind)
Medium chop
Auto glide on
Trim assist on
Nearly full tank
3 people

Do you have any insight-too heavy with full tanks; does auto trim make a difference; too high of expectations?

Thanks all!

When I demoed our R6 my sales rep told me that auto trim works great up to 30mph. After that we would manually trim down. You could even feel the boat start to porpoise. Maybe that will help squeek a few mph out of those twins.

The prop chart says 60 mph @ 6,100 RPM and 3.8 seconds to plane. I'd say something is off.

Beautiful boat! Did you purchase from Arrowhead Boat Sales? I think that I saw your boat at the sales dock last week. Enjoy!

Arrowhead didn’t have much inventory so I found the boat in TX and had it shipped here. We’ll be keeping it at Cherokee since we have a place at The Coves. I had to buy a new HydroHoist (gulp$$) from Arrowhead to be installed across the cove. They were nice enough to let me keep the R30 on a lift until mine is ready. So that was probably my boat!

Did I recently read on another post you have a 276? Sexy boat!

I hope you see you around the lake!

Yes, thanks. Have enjoyed the 276. I hunted for a used R30 with no luck (even had a deposit on one in Texas that sold out from under me) and so decided to order a new one. With COVID delays it will not ship until November. We have a place on the Langley bluff but many friends in the Coves. Enjoy your new boat, warmer weather is almost here.

My boat has auto trim and tabs as well. Tabs should be flat for max speed - Auto trim in the "off" mode seemed to help as I could manually adjust to conditions seeking top speed.

At about 300 hours the engines seemed to loosen up a bit and give me some extra RPMs . Report back! It's a real rush for a big luxury boat to run 60!

That's interesting. We're approaching 300 hours but have small block.

If the engines loosen up and run faster around 300 hours I will have another wait couple more years before my 2014 R5 gets there... If my radio had an hour meter while floating at anchor then we would be way past 300hrs!

Well if your like mine you might have to wait 19 years. Mine just loosened up at the end of last year. Lol
I just hit 300.
