New to me 2006 272
Hope to acquire a 2006 272 with 496 mercruiser bravo 3. I noted the steering was significantly stiffer compared to other bravo 3s in previous Sea Rays we have had. Almost feels like manual steering in a 70s pickup.
Also noted the trim up switch does not respond unless you completely depress the switch as in to trailer the lower unit.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: New to me 2006 272
Suggest you get somebody knowledgeable to look "survey" the boat. Its almost 20 years old. Steering and trim are just 20 year old boating symptoms to be solved. How many hours, compression test? Gauges? Sending units, Interior worn for its age. History? Is it FW or SW? Is it wet/dry manifolds and condition? You can try lifting the out-drive up and is the steers easier then its a cable usually. Trim could be a variety of things. Get the boat surveyed and don't fall in love.

.
So glad you found us TF.
A survey is always a good idea. Could be the cable. How many hours?
Check the power steering fluid and serpentine belt tightness. It should not push more than 1/2”.
Post a pic or two.
And welcome aboard mate!

Thank you. Fresh water 530 hours. Had a survey done. Said steering was “fine” and trimmed normally.

Re: New to me 2006 272
Hopefully can get some pics soon. I am reworking trailer bunks before I can get it loaded. I noticed the bow seat in front of the helm has pulled loose from the hinge. The hinge is secure to the fiberglass but the screw have pulled out of the seat back. Are the seat backs wood, fiberglass? What is the best way to fix that. Thanks

In the big box stores they sell glue/compound to make new threads or do what my father used to do, wood glue and wood toothpicks and pack the hole with toothpicks. Don't really need the wood glue if you pack it

Thank you guys. I need to access the back of the dash to replace speedo, tach and work on lubricating steering. There is a carpet covered wall preventing access and you can’t access from under the helm as it is completely covered. How do I get in there?

I think that carpet will come out from behind the bow seat back storage areaTickfaw wrote: Tue Aug 09, 2022 9:39 am Thank you guys. Re: New to me 2006 272
The boat has an onboard battery charger and the Blue Sea battery switch - 1, 1+2, 2, off. Where should the switch be when the charger is plugged in?
Re: New to me 2006 272
If I'm not mistaken the charger should be wired directly to the battery. I think you would be ok to leave it in any position except the 1+2 position.

Re: New to me 2006 272
correct, wired to the battery. Switch doesn't matter. Usually you shut the switch to Off when you leave the boat for the day unless you have some accessory running. Try to plug the charger in when you leave the boat. Also, verify the automatic bilge pump float works with the switch in the Off position

Re: New to me 2006 272
Trying to replace the retainer/receiver for the sliding bolt on the bow walk through door where it secures to starboard hole and the hole in the floor. Any ideas on what to use or where to find something ?
Thanks
Thanks
