Trim switches don't work
Trim switches don't work
Neither the throttle or transom trim tilt switches work. I direct wired the tilt pump motor and pump works fine. HELP!

Hey jetski22...so glad you found us.
Is this on a Cobalt or jetski ?.
By chance did you check the circuit breaker?
Any pics of your Cobalt?
And welcome aboard mate.

I have a 2002 Cobalt 246 with 8.1 Volvo Penta. I don't know where the circuit breaker is located.
Thank you for the Welcome Aboard!!

Re: Trim switches don't work
Can you show us a picture of your trim relays? Volvo changed the design in and around your year. On the older models, there was a circuit breaker button on top of the relay module. Later years had a fuse near the relays which was for the control circuit and the main breaker was elsewhere.

Re: Trim switches don't work
I have a 10 amp fuse right next to the relays and it is good. There is just no 12v power to the throttle trim switch or the transom switch. I just can't figure out where the power is supposed to come from to power either switch.

Don't know if this will help but:
On our 2006 Volvo Penta we experienced the same thing. We found a fuse that had a little switch on it. Flipped it, and never had a problem again.

Pictures woukd be very useful in helping you troubleshoot this issue.

That boat was a Caravelle BR187. It was my starter boat. The fuse box on it was in the engine compartment. I'm not sure Cobalt where it would be on a Cobalt, or if they used similar fuses. I don't know if the fuses would fall under Volvo Penta domain or Cobalt domain.

Re: Trim switches don't work
I have a 2024 CS22 that has had continuing issue with the trim functioning. Had trim sensor and pump replaced. Ran great once then next time we took it out, it would only trim up but not down. Had a tech look and they said it was a bad relay, and replaced.. is this a frequent problem with Cobalt/Volvo I/O ?

Re: Trim switches don't work
I just had to replace the Hella relays on our 293's Port engine, now the drive trims just fine. I found them on Amazon for like $20 each but I'm sure most auto parts stores would have them for a little more.

Re: Trim switches don't work
We also did the trim sender at the same time, so easy on Volvo, I think it took us less than 45 minutes from start to finish. On a Merc we'd have to pull the outdrive.

Re: Trim switches don't work
Any pictures for this thread? I just created another post about adding a transom tilt switch on an 8.1 but need some help on where the pump is located and where to attach wiring. My 220 is a 2008.
