Cobalt 263 winterization question
Cobalt 263 winterization question
So when I was winterizing my cobalt 263 with the 496, I put 5 gallons of winterizer to the outdrive but did not understand that it had a low water pick up on the XR Drive. Do you think enough water got to the water pump to where it was not damaged being as that I was using regular muffs? Thanks for everyone’s help in advance.

Re: Cobalt 263 winterization question
All you have to do is put some tape over the low water pick up holes. There's no need for special muffs or anything. Did you drain the water out of the system prior to running it on the muffs? That's super hard to tell if enough got in. Did antifreeze come out of the exhaust when it was running?

Barely like a few drips. I more concerned that I damaged the impeller. And it’s the merc so the impeller is a pain to change. Do I think it ruined the impeller?

Re: Cobalt 263 winterization question
When was the last time the impeller was changed? Did you smell rubber burning? The stock impeller and housing is prone to fail anyway. The seal wears out and it will leak. I highly recommend upgrading to a Hardin marine stainless pump. I did! Well worth the money and lowered my supercharged engine temp by 10-15 degrees. Changing the impeller is also alot easier with the Hardin pump
