how to remove the speedo tube?

anyone ever done this? I installed a GPS speedo and want to remove the old tube. Appears it goes down the starboard side with a gaggle of wires etc. I could not find the tube in the engine compartment so cannot see where it terminates. Any help appreciated.

update - I found where the speedo tube is zip tied to other lines (wires) behind the speaker next to the captain's seat. Still cannot find where it goes from there.

You will find that the factory has prewired for the transom shower and also for a galley pump.

My boat has the transom shower but no galley pump. Are you suggesting that those documents show how the speedo tube is routed?

We have neither the transom shower nor the galley pump, but the wiring for those two items is still there from the factory. The galley pump wasn’t even offered as an option for the 2007 model year. I discovered that not only was the galley pump wiring factory installed, but that the wiring was also connected up to a circuit breaker and helm switch.

Sorry, but the 240 electrical diagrams won’t help with the speedo tube routing. I think you will find them useful for general electrical troubleshooting. I have discovered some small differences between the electrical diagrams and the as-found wiring in my boat. Someday I’m hoping to get my marked-up electrical diagrams uploaded to the forum.

I’m 99% sure that I came across a vinyl tube that I assumed was the speedo tube when I was tapping into the galley pump connector last summer. I had taken off the garbage can compartment and had opened up the wiring harness holder. I found the vinyl tube when I removed the big wiring harness bundle out of the wiring harness holder.

I took some pictures of the wiring harness bundle, but was mainly concentrating on the galley pump and transom shower wiring. I’ll go review those pictures in a little while and see if there are any that might be of use to you.

The speedo tube is routed with wires from the back of the dashboard to the engine compartment. Thanks for the tip about removing the trash can locker. Got the tube removed back to the additional bundle of wires etc. in the engine compartment just behind the hanging wet gear bags under the rear deck hatch. For now I'll just put a machine screw in the tube and call it good until I hire a monkey to go after the remainder of the tube cause I'll never fit in there. Lol

This might be a little late, but here are some pictures of the speedometer tube. The first pic is looking through the drivers seat speaker hole.

This pic is looking through the hole when the garbage can compartment was removed. The wiring bundle is normally in the black raceway at the top of the picture. As a side note, those two white connectors were stuffed in that raceway and were completely hidden from view until I opened up the raceway. The two connectors are for the transom shower switch and the transom shower pump, which my boat did not have from the factory.

Yup, those were the two holes I accessed to remove the speedo tube. Thanks for the photos. How did you remove the wire bundle from the raceway?

The raceway has a single piece, snap-together type of construction. If you zoom into the area around the stainless steel screw, you can see how the two ends snap into one another. It took me a fair amount of force to get the raceway unsnapped. I still haven’t figured out who manufactures this raceway.

cool. I found that out when I removed the tube. It was kinda stuck in the raceway and I was afraid of yanking a wire loose from something so while monkeying around with the raceway it came loose and I was easily able to remove the speedo tube. Pictures really do tell the story. Thanks for sharing. OBTW, what's the titanium reference in your user name?

I never knew how tedious and time consuming the process is to get to the finished titanium product. Really enjoyed that TB. …especially as a pilot who flew planes that refueled the Blackbird.

Our facility had the titanium sponge plant, a Magnesium plant, a Vacuum Arc Melt shop, a Mill Products plant, a Casting shop, and a Chip Recycling facility. I worked in all of these plants at one time or another.

One of the by-products of the titanium sponge plant is magnesium chloride, which is a salt similar to sodium chloride. The Magnesium plant would run 80,000 Amps of current through bedroom sized containers of molten magnesium chloride. The electric current would break apart the molten magnesium chloride into molten magnesium metal and chlorine gas. The magnesium metal would go back to the titanium sponge plant to make more titanium metal, The chlorine gas would be purified, liquified, loaded onto rail cars to be shipped out.

The Vacuum Arc Melt shop would take the titanium sponge metal and melt it under vacuum with lots of DC electrical current. Think of a normal stick welder where you arc melt the welding rod completely into a small container. The vacuum arc melt furnaces did exactly the same thing except it was done under a vacuum, the welding rods were 20 ft long and 18” in diameter, and the current was 40,000 Amps.
