R5 Mod GPSMAP 943

Swapped out the original GPSMAP 740 for a new GPSMAP 943 in our 2014 R5.
I did the swap out and my Dremel tool sure came in handy.
The NEMA 2000 was plug-n-play, but the power cord is different and needed to be changed. Not too difficult.
The 943 is a vast improvement over the 740 in features and ...

Re: R26/R26 Surf

Not sure of the freeboard numbers, but the R26 looks long and low in comparison to the R6. Definitely closer to the R5 in that regard.
I would expect the freeboard to be more comparable to the R5 than the R6. I would note that the R5 has plenty of freeboard, especially when combined with the 21 ...

R26/R26 Surf

Forgot to mention in the previous post about some of the other changes from the R6 to R26.
The interior of the R5 has a very rounded edge structure in the seating area. The R6 has a very aggressive, sharp, edge that I never cared for.
The R26 appears to split the difference.
The fiberglass ...

Re: 2027 R6 Bow Seating - NEW!!!

New 26’ boat replacing the R6 and R6 Surf. Now the R26, R26 Surf. These are the Sterndrive models. Nothing on the Outboard, so far.
21 Degree dead rise, same as the R5. I believe the R6, R8 are in the range of 18 degrees. I’ve test driven the R6 on the river. Big difference in big water. We have a ...

Re: R5 windlass

Appreciate the heads up concerning compatible components! That is the main reason for buying the Kit from Cobalt. Pricey for sure, but I should be good on the components.
I may have found a guy! I just took the R5 in today for a professional wet sanding from my regular crew. It’s been a couple of ...

Re: R5 windlass

Yes Kate, expensive. That’s why I was wondering what was included in the order that jorsr received.
From the Cobalt website: R6 Option: WINDLASS, ALL CHAIN W/ANCHOR $6102. That includes the fancy Cobalt Bow Skid Plate/Hawse Pipe and Anchor Roller. West Marine prices very close to what you saw. But ...

Re: R5 windlass

I’m debating upgrading our 2014 R5 with the Anchor Windlass and Arch with Rotating Sunshade. Planning to stay with factory parts.
We have looked at a new R6 and R8. Not crazy about the pricing and we love our R5.
What exactly is included with the Windlass kit? My main question concerns the ...

Re: R5 SeaDek Install

The transom WalkThru is one of my two favorite things about the SeaDek install. Our previous Cobalt 240 had a separate hatch in the WalkThru which was not part of the engine hatch and which you could open to access ski vests. The engine hatch was smaller than the R5’s and opened separately. Much ...

Re: 2014 R5 Mods

The Command Strip idea worked great initially, but the Florida heat and humidity eventually took their toll.
After replacing twice I decided to drill a few holes.
Used double male-female adapters to tie into the 12Volt accessory/lighter plug at the helm.

Re: R5 SeaDek Install

The non-skid was not ground off, the SeaDek was installed directly on the existing deck. I imagine that would have been a very labor intensive, and expensive, job to grind smooth. Not sure if the factory Sof-Trac install is on a smooth surface, but you would probably get better adhesion with the ...

Re: R5 SeaDek Install

Castaway Customs out of St Augustine. I worked with John at the JAX Boat Show this past Spring.
The whole crew has been great to work with!
johnp@castawaycustoms.com or www.castawaycustoms.com.
The installer removed the snaps in about 10 minutes and filled a bit. I’m not sure how much fill was used ...

Re: R5 SeaDek Install

Got it out of St Augustine. SeaDek is based in Rockledge, FL near Cape Canaveral.
Quote was $2,350 including tax and install which also included the head compartment. Didn’t breakout the install because they offer a
3 yr warranty on product and labor if they install.
Got a 10% boat show discount ...
