JL Audio Upgrade for our 95 252

shrfdeputy, Where did you have this work done at? I'm in Augusta, KS and I just bought a 2008 COBALT 222. I want to upgrade the stereo to JL speakers and amps, and tower speakers, and add a second battery. Where did you buy all the JL components? TIA!

Hey Dockrocker, we wrapped up an offseason stereo refresh in our 2007 222 last year. It was all pretty straight forward, but if you need any help let me know. Also our 222 came from the factory /w dual batteries, if you want me to snap some pics of how the factory did it we will be at the boat next weekend.

Yes, some pictures of the factory dual batteries would be great! I'm sure I will be asking for some help. I want to install another battery and different switch (maybe Blue Sea 5511e), battery charger, and install a couple JL amps, speakers and tower speakers. I plan on doing all of this myself. My 222 came with 1 battery and low grade stereo system. It did come with a great Sampson Razor tower!

Sounds like a plan. We did two JL Amps, speakers Sub and tower speakers. Nothing really hard about it just a lot of time, took a couple trips to the lake to get it all done.

I would look at adding an ACR while you are doing it all. I still want to add one to ours just haven't gotten there yet. We will be at the lake for pics next weekend, if I can help /w anything else in the meantime just let me know.

I read your post about your stereo system upgrade. Very good info. I plan on doing about the same thing. I think I want to add the second battery and the new battery switch first. Right now, my single battery is on the port side. Which side is your starter battery on, and which side is your house battery on? Are your JL amps mounted in the port side front storage compartment? Seems to me, I would want my house battery on the port side, closer to the AMPS and stereo. TIA! Scott

We dont have a an ACR so its a simple 1/2/Both/Off Battery switch, basically the starting battery is whichever we chose to run that day. I try to alternate batteries, running off battery 1 on Saturday and battery 2 Sunday. I have the amps powered from the battery switch so they are running off whichever battery we are running that day.

Not the ideal setup, and like I said I really want to get an ACR wired in, but for now it works. If I was adding one from scratch I would do this:

We are running two M600/6's and two group 27 starting batteries, they were in the boat when we bought it. We have been in a cove for about six hours with everything up loud enough that I was asked to turn it down so people could talk and the boat still started up no problem. When they die we will go to two nice AGM's.

The amps sit on the back partition of the port side compartment. Power and ground wire runs were really not bad, there is plenty of room to get up the side of the boat. The only really bad part was there is a partition between the engine compartment and the back seat that is a pain to get a cable through. Definitely need someone on each side to get the cables routed through.

We get down there this weekend and I will get some pics of how the Starboard battery is mounted, honestly its the easier of the two to get to so you are lucky the factory put one in the port side lol.
